Why Did She Smile Everytime....??

We shifted to a new appartment. The place was good for me and my parents both. From my perspective, the playground was near and from my parents' perspective, the library was near(I hope you got it, as according to them the latter was the place for me).

Mom and dad left for shopping and i was watching a cricket match on TV as usual. Current went off, so went my patience. I started chanting every slang i knew, directing them towards every God damn politician, not even caring whether he belonged to the government or not.

I went to the balcony. Every sight was very new for me, as we had just moved in. The area was rather uncrowded, secluded from the city's rush and pollution. I was just checking out my neighbourhood. I saw a little girl sitting at the window of the flat just in front of ours. She had an innocent smile on her face. Something was rather strange. But you know, we guys hardly care. I picked up a wafers pack and went back in.

The next day, I was leaving for school, I had a glimpse of the girl again. She was smiling again. Her eyes at me, her face had a divine expression, a uncaring, a unmindful smile. Sparkling with innocence, oozing with charm. But there was something unusual. I was in a hurry and so I left.

For a week I saw this girl, smiling everytime. I was not sure why she smiled so much. Suddenly her smile had become a problem for me. Out of curiosity, I visited her house. I was new to her parents, they greeted me well and started telling me about their family. The girl was their only child. They told me about her likes and dislikes. Like every parent, they loved her a lot and did whatever she said. The whole house was brimming with her snaps. I asked them why she is never seen with children of her her age, playing at the playground. Without hesitation her mother replied," She cannot play.....as she cannot see... she is blind". I was taken aback. I couldn't say a word and left.

I came back and went to my balcony. She was still there, smiling as always, her eyes towards me(which i now knew were not watching me).

I finally understood why did she smile everytime. She smiled because she knew no other expression. She didn't had the so-called privilege to look at faces turned grim with competition and toil. She couldn't see trickery, she couldn't see malice, she couldn't see hatred. She was blind to back-biting, she was blind to fakeness, she was blind to hypocrisy, she was blind to diplomism. She knew nothing else but to smile.

Suddenly I started smiling. Mom sitting next to me asked,"Are you mad! Why are you smiling without reason?"

I replied smiling," I don't need any reason because now I want to be BLIND TO THIS GOD DAMN WORLD LIKE HER...!!!!"

I want to know from you whether my smile and answer were justified or not.

Signing off for now.

Take care.

Bye.

Dhaval, you inspired me to ask of myself, "Must we be denied one of our senses to gain and preserve our innocence and ability to smile all the while?"

i am extremely elated that you asked me this....sir...i find that its not about losing one of our senses...its about gaining the right senses to smile and look this world from a broader perspective.....
I can thing of beautiful lines...
"i was always sad that i had no shoes,
till i met a man with no feet..."
We need to realise this girl even after losing one of her senses...is happy...smiling...we cannot be happy or smiling having everything....in this fast paced world....better not to see this world....this doesnt means go blind....it means go blind to the ruthlessness...and be happy....
thanks.

Hello Dhaval

You really made me smile.I am a person who just thinks too much and that thinking always results in a disaster.I am much worried about what the other person thinks if i say something to them, and thinking always creates problem for me and my smiling face is turned into a stupid sad face which makes whole of the envoirnment sad and irritating.and then nobody likes to talk with me......

i m very much upset with this habbit of mine.......can you help me to come out of this........

i would just say mam...it will be great if you don't feel sad about anything you do...because sometimes this feeling of being upset turns out to be a big turn-off...just be confident and make others feel the same....don't be skeptical before saying anything...like you said here...there will be always people around to make life special for you....take care

Hi Dhaval..

Today I saw a little blind girl also... I was passing through one of the most crowded streets in Istanbul by bus.. I saw looking outside from the window n thinking how desperate my life was.. Then, I saw that little cute girl, she was trying to open a space for herself with her stick n smiling to everywhere as if she was trying to communicate with her environment.. She was saying I love life whatever happens.. I just felt ashamed at that moment when I see her.. I was ashamed of all my sorrows which actually means not too much..

like the movie says: Life is beautiful...

and I am very very thankful God for granting it to us
